Enhanced Access to Education for Indigenous Children
Location
Tawi-Tawi, Philippines
Start Date
2011
Project type
Non-profit, non-governmental organisation
The Indigenous Children Learning Centers (ICLC) initiative comprises 14 learning centers, dedicated to serving indigenous children aged 3-10 on the island of Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi, in the remote southern Philippines. Our centers cater to the essential educational needs of 1,500 children, who also receive lunch and registration support. Our dedicated local staff and volunteers ensure that these children have the unique opportunity to learn the alphabet, numbers, and basic English and Tagalog, all taught in their native tongue.
Parents are addressed in their own language during ceremonies, and their cultural heritage is celebrated through traditional dance, song, and games. Attending school has become a source of pride, bringing joy to many indigenous families who often face unimaginable hardships. Our learning centers provide relief to both parents and children, instilling confidence and hope for a brighter future.
